How to Properly Shoulder a Shotgun: Tips and Techniques

When it comes to shooting a shotgun, one of the most basic but crucial things to learn is how to properly shoulder it. Here are some tips and techniques to help you do just that:

1. Start by standing in a comfortable position with your feet shoulder-width apart.

2. Bring the shotgun up to your chest with both hands on the grip and trigger guard.

3. Place your dominant hand on the grip and your weaker hand under the forend.

4. Lean forward slightly and bring the butt of the gun up to your shoulder.

5. The stock of the shotgun should fit snugly into the pocket between your shoulder and collarbone.

6. Your cheek should be resting comfortably on the comb of the stock, with your eye aligned with the sight.

7. Keep your elbows close to your body to help absorb the recoil.

8. Take a deep breath, exhale slowly, and squeeze the trigger.

Remember, practice makes perfect when it comes to mastering the proper shoulder technique. With enough practice and patience, you’ll be able to shoulder your shotgun easily and accurately every time. Happy shooting!
